Our journey began with a passion for Colombia, and especially for its Coffee Triangle.

We lived here several times over the years, sometimes individually, sometimes as a couple, including a long expatriation in Pereira for work. Then, almost inevitably, we found ourselves returning a few years later, knowing this was where we wanted to be—with our three children.

Perched at 2,000 metres above sea level, the lands of Casa Coyaima stretch across the Andes. From the very first moments, our family felt at home—peaceful, connected, and deeply at ease. Something truly special had happened. We began discovering the village, its people, its fascinating history, its extraordinarily fertile land, and the world of coffee.

The daily flight of the parrots and the countless birds that inhabit these mountains completed the enchantment. We simply couldn’t keep this place to ourselves.

So we asked ourselves: how could we share such a special place?

We began by caring for the land. In 2023, we launched an ambitious reforestation programme, reintroducing native trees, planting fruit trees, and adding carefully selected species to protect the surrounding ecosystem and enrich the soil.

Coffee also lies at the heart of the project. We planted 4,000 coffee trees across six so-called exotic varieties, all cultivated through thoughtful, sustainable practices. Our coffee is entirely organic, from seed to harvest. We started with no experience at all, learning directly from the land, training alongside local experts, and gradually building our knowledge. Today, we are proud to share our specialty coffee with our guests.

We also secured our water supply by restoring and protecting the entire system, from the natural spring to a modern filtration process, ensuring safe drinking water at all times.

Over those same two years, we installed solar panels that now provide the energy needed to power the entire project.

Once nature had begun to flourish again, and we had secured both water and energy, we found ourselves asking the same question once more:

How could we share such a special place?

We never set out to create a hotel in the traditional sense, with its conventions and formalities. In truth, we still struggle to find the right word to describe this place. An ecolodge? Sustainable accommodation? Neither quite captures what Casa Coyaima is.

More than anything, we have created a place that reflects who we are and the values we believe in. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in tourism, and inspired by the people, places and cultures we have encountered along the way, we have shaped our own vision of hospitality.

We welcome our guests the way we love to be welcomed ourselves: with simplicity, in discreet, comfortable and thoughtfully designed surroundings, where you can truly feel at home. A place with room to slow down, to share conversations, or simply let your mind wander.

Ostentatious luxury has never appealed to us. Instead, you’ll find spacious, beautifully crafted stilted cabins, where refined comfort and attention to detail speak for themselves.

Encounters and human connections have always been at the heart of the way we travel.

KMØ – Casa de Viajeros is the soul of Casa Coyaima and the place where it all began. It was once our family’s gathering place, where we spent countless hours with our children. When we rebuilt it, we did so with the very same intention: to create a space where hospitality feels genuine and effortless.

At KMØ, you’ll meet our team, enjoy a coffee at any time of day, relax on the panoramic terrace, unwind by the fire, listen to music, join in the cooking, strike up a conversation with fellow travellers, or gather around a board game. It is a place for sharing stories, passing on knowledge, and creating meaningful connections.

We have travelled with our three children since they were very young, and those encounters have always been an essential part of their journey. Here, children discover a place that is remote, a little wild, and full of wonder. Everything has been designed so that families feel genuinely welcome, cared for, and completely at home.

Every part of Casa Coyaima has been designed in harmony with its natural surroundings. Two spacious stilted cabins overlook either the valley or the village, thoughtfully designed by an architect who works with locally sourced materials and organic forms inspired by nature. Our family cabin has been expanded with a living green roof and is available to guests whenever we are away.

Many of the most memorable moments happen naturally around the table. Our large kitchen garden, La Chagra, supplies part of the restaurant’s produce, and guests are always welcome to harvest alongside us or simply wander through its paths.

Casa Coyaima welcomes only a small number of guests at any one time—and that is entirely by design.

Here, everyone creates their own stay. You choose the balance between privacy and connection, set your own pace, and follow your own curiosity, while we are simply here to guide and care for you whenever you need us.

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve probably realised that no description can truly capture what Casa Coyaima is. And that’s entirely intentional. This is not a place to be explained—it is a place to be experienced.

Everyone discovers it in their own way.

But if you’re still wondering whether Casa Coyaima is for you, here are a few clues.

Casa Coyaima is for those seeking:

  • A discreet, understated luxury and a genuinely warm atmosphere.
  • A close connection with nature and the extraordinary biodiversity of the Coffee Triangle.
  • Honest, seasonal cuisine inspired by our kitchen garden, La Chagra.
  • An introduction to the world of specialty coffee through our young organic plantation.
  • Carefully curated experiences, at the gentle pace of the surrounding villages and the hidden treasures of the valley, far from noise and crowds.
  • The freedom to slow down, follow your own rhythm, and leave schedules behind.
  • An opportunity to discover and support meaningful environmental and community initiatives through our foundation.

Above all, Casa Coyaima is for travellers who believe that the most memorable journeys are not measured by how much they do, but by how deeply they feel.

By the way… what does “Casa Coyaima” mean?

The name Coyaima pays tribute to the Indigenous Coyaima people, who once lived throughout this part of the Andes. Together with the Pijao and Nataigama peoples, they fiercely resisted the Spanish conquest for generations.

Their courage and resilience remain an important part of the region’s identity. In fact, unlike many neighbouring towns, both Pijao and Coyaima have retained their original Indigenous names rather than being Hispanicised—a lasting reminder of this remarkable heritage.

If you’re curious to learn more, you can discover artefacts from these Indigenous communities at the small museum in Pijao, just beside the village church.
